Have Kits With Your Mate
When mating season rolls around you are ready, and without further ado you and your mate proceed with the process that will give you kits. It has been a bit of time since you’ve mated and you can feel the new lives stirring in your belly. You are unsure of how many you will have but with your gut rounding out you know for sure that some are on the way. Your mate sticks close to you during this time, making sure that you are cared for while you are pregnant.
Though you are working to try and keep yourself fed as well you know that you must take caution during this time. Being pregnant can leave you a bit more vulnerable to other predators though luckily there doesn’t seem to be anything too much bigger than you in the area at this time. There is one concern you have, however. A badger that has been sniffing around your den.
Badgers, being creatures with nasty tempers, are a real threat to the little ones that are growing in your belly. They will sometimes attack, kill, and even eat young fox kits. Luckily you’d planned a bit ahead, making extra exit holes for a total of three in your current den. This allows some room in case of an attack for you or your little ones to get out safely.
With a content, full belly of squirrel meat you head back to the den. It is about mid day and the warm spring sun feels nice upon your back. You look forward to the warmer months when food is more plentiful and your babies are born. Though once that happens you’ll need to stick around the den to guard it from that badger and make sure he knows to keep his nose out from where it doesn’t belong!
