Out Further
You begin to fly out further, relishing the salt in the air and the whoosh of chilly air that gushes past. But your wings are so huge and cover such distance, that you’re soon lost in the midst of the ocean.
You land, floating on the surface. You know that the albatross fishes for food in the water through dives, but you’re totally unsure how it works. You float for a while, mentally planning before you try yourself; diving beneath the water.
You soar through the water, essentially a bullet before you spot a sudden squiggle of motion. Your beak lunges apart, grabbing for it before you veer for the surface again, exploding with the captured prey. You slurp it down, shuddering with disgust. “I’m not sure how I’ll ever figure out how to get back there, but why would I?!” you think, diving back into the air. You coast out further, looking into the horizon and picturing an entire life exploring the ocean with a smile.
