“What do you mean? I’m not saying that you’re right, but I am curious,” you reply. Perhaps this man can help you, but you still remain cautious.
He laughs quietly and turns to look at you. “What you say tells me everything. That isn’t the response one of the NPCs here would give me if I asked them. So, you clearly aren’t one of them.”
This does make perfect sense, but you’re not sure what to make of this guy yet. “That must mean that you aren’t an NPC either. Are you another player?”
His face darkens a bit. “I was another player. But I died which means that I lost the game and now I seem to be stuck here.”
What he says terrifies you because that means it is possible for you to get stuck in the game if a monster kills you. You shudder when you realize that you already came very close to dying today despite the monsters being fairly easy to kill. The man can tell that this has spooked you, so he does his best to calm you down.
“Listen, I have reason to believe that there is a way out of here. If you’ve come this far, I’m sure that you have seen all of the scrolls in the quest store?” You nod at him so he continues. “You probably also know about the colored ribbons then. Most of the different colors mean that they give a different reward, or at least that’s what the man who owns the store told me.”
“What does that have to do with anything? I want to leave,” you say and then realize how rude it sounds. “Please, I just want to go home.”
