Catch Him
You were gaining on the orange shape, and beyond that, you heard the labored breathing of the colossal deer. Instantly, you leaped into the air and landed onto the back of the deer. The tiger had raced around the deer and blocked off his exit, causing him to skid to a stop. This left the perfect opportunity for you.
Instinct took over. Your claws sunk into the deer's flesh as it yowled and danced around, trying to buck you off its back. You growled and sunk your teeth into its shoulder, holding on for dear life. The tiger slammed the deer from the side, and you both tumbled to the ground. You released the deer to prevent yourself from landing underneath it. The creature kicked outward with its sharp hooves, struggling to rectify his regrettable situation. You were not risking his escape.
Pouncing forward, your jaw snapped around the deer's throat, and you yearned for it to all be over. Just stop kicking. You won't feel pain if you just relax. The tiger held the deer down as the life drained from its body. Its kicks became less violent, and you held on tight, ignoring the whines coming from the unfortunate creature. The jerks ceased entirely, the giant's body lapsing on the ground. You released your hold and stumbled to the side, shaking your head and ignoring the blood dripping from your lips.
"It is done."
You should have felt excited about this. You had the pelt, yet you pure emptiness erupted deep within your gut.
You're exchanging one life for another, take life to give life.
The gravity of that statement hit you like a ton of bricks. You had never felt less human.
