Assist the City Watch: Nighttime
“We are an extension of the kingdom and enforce its laws, but generally we stay out of the way of civilian law enforcement. Sometimes the presence of a castle knight is requested, however, especially when civilian law enforcement and the concerns of the crown intersect. From what I understand, a recently caught thief claims to have knowledge of a plot to rob the castle treasury. He may just be spinning a yarn to reduce his sentence, though, so you’ll be accompanying the city watch on their raid to confirm the truth of his tale.”
An image of you kicking down the door and getting locked in some grand melee starts to play out in your head, but almost as if she can read your mind the trainer shakes her head. “You’re not going to be kicking in any doors; if all goes well, you won’t see any combat action at all. One the officers secure the scene, you go in to assist with the investigation. A knight always has their sword and shield, and you should never assume you won’t be called on for assistance, but that should really only be an issue if they’ve grossly underestimated how many criminals they’re dealing with.”
The trainer advises you to get some rest now; you don’t want to embarrass the Knights by falling asleep in the middle of a stakeout after all. Agreeing that could be an awkward situation, you follow her directions to the barracks. Despite your inexperience wearing armor, you find you’re able to slip out of it with ease when you reach your room. It feels nice to shed the extra weight after lugging it around all this time, though you can’t help but feel a little naked without it.
There were a few other people in the barracks that you passed, most likely your fellow Knights. Do you want to strike up a conversation with any of them, or do you want to hit the hay now?
