Criminal
Aiden clears his throat and looks down.
"Well, I... I think this place is... almost like a prison," he says, almost whispering.
"What do you mean?" Your brow furrows further.
"I... I didn't put on the costume by choice... I think it's a punishment."
"For what?"
"For criminals," he says.
"Aiden... What are you not telling me?" you say, looking in his eyes.
He looks down again, then back at you.
"I was in prison. I killed a man that broke into my house. They sent me to prison. It wasn't intentional..." He sighed and looked away.
You grab his arm and squeeze it. "I don't care. Look, we're stuck in this jungle, what happened before doesn't matter. What matters is that we're here now."
He sighs and looks away, still distancing himself from you. You rest your head on his shoulder and close your eyes. "Just don't forget I'm here... you're not alone anymore... you have someone to talk to you."
He nods and sinks down to the floor of the treehouse, closing his eyes.
