In a room star star star star halfstar

The sign reads

"Welcome all new travellers.

To continue you must go through a series of doors.

After going through you will pick a costume. You will then become a half- human and half that creature.

After a week(100 mins a hour,20 hrs a day,10 days a week) has passed you may morph and get another costume. To start of with you will only be able to become 40% human to 60% human.

If you put on a costume you will then become that creature, be teleported to it's home town and have to wait a week before being able to morph.

After 50 costumes you may change into one of your other costumes and become 30% to 70% human. When changing costumes you must wait at least an hour before you can change costumes again.

100 different species/gender costumes allows you to gender-morph and become 20% to 80% human

200 different species costumes allows you to combine costumes and become 10% to 90% human

400 different species costumes allows you to return to your world with no more morphing

And 800 different species costumes makes a polymorph and allows you to morph outside of this world.

Also if you have a costume like a centaur then the human part will always be human and is counted towards the human percentage.

Any gender/species transformation magic of yours can only change your gender(if you have at least 100 costumes) and the animal part to a different animal.

When you change into a different costume (that you already have) you may teleport to that species home town but you will have the week penalty where you have no costume changes.

If you die while wearing a costume you will be reborn at the local inn (or appropriate location ). If you have more then 100 costumes you will lose the costume you had when you died and go to an appropriate place for your next costume.

If you fail to make it out in 100 years(100 weeks in a year) one of your possible forms will be chosen and you will be permanently stuck in that form(apart from magic) until you die. Also there will be no possibility of going back to your world.

Also, one final note: should you take a female form and become pregnant, you won't be able to change your gender until the child is born, though the other aspects of your form may change (the child will change to match.) That is all, and good luck!

You realise that you have to do what the sign said to do and go through the doors and grab a costume.

You find yourself in what appears to be a glass room suspended high in the sky.

The stairs are blocked by a force field.

You realise you have to go through one of the three sky blue doors numbed 1,2 & 3.

What door do you want?

Female Myth Air star star emptystar emptystar emptystar

You go through the door.

All of a sudden it slams shut and with no handle on this side it appears that you are stuck.

There are five costumes in this room, all of them female, all of them are myth air creatures.

Wings and Hooves 'N Stuff star star star star emptystar

The room is painted with a rocky, craggy path seemingly leading off around a corner of dark and jagged stone, but it is an illusion; you touch the wall with your hands when you try to follow. It's cold, here; snow falls from the very ceiling; not flakes of ice that a man-made machine would spit out, but crystalline flakes. Suddenly, it occurs to you that this whole insane scenario might be far more real than it seemed when you arrived.

Re-viewing the little golden female symbol above the door, you scowl. Who cares that much about gender, other than fetishists? Then you think, maybe this place was *built* by fetishists, and you shudder in dread.

You pick up the costumes and riffle through the pieces. Which one? Why? And did they really mean you'd have to be a girl? Ugh... Finally, you opt for a silky white fursuit with a pair of stuffed, gold spray-painted wings on the back.

You zip up the cold zipper. The suit comes up to your neck, so from the neck up you're human- GREAT SCOT! The suit latches to your flesh and squeezes! Your hooves pop out and clatter upon the ground as your new hairy tail follows suit, swatting snow out of the air like sub-zero flies! Heat on your neck marks the crawling advance of the suit as your ears stiffen and migrate, and your face cracks and snaps out into a wide-nostriled mare's!

"REE-HEE-HEE-HEE-HEE!" You whinny! Wings erupt from your back like violent petals. In the snow, you shake your flanks off as the world goes slowly white...

The white clears, revealing an idyllic meadow leading to a green mountainside. Up on a hill some five miles hence, a Greek-style temple is perched. So, what... is this Ancient Greece?

Modern Greece? Fictional Greece? Is it Greece at all? Staggering around on your two hooves, flexing your "hands" idly, you realize that in this hodgepodge of madness you've landed in, you'll have to make a strong decision to make heads or hooves of it.

Did anyone see that..? star star star star emptystar

You stumble anxiously to a dark alley between short-standing buildings, in what seems like a busy market. Hopefully no one saw you, you need time to understand just what happened, before anyone else decides that for you. Nothing like an antique witchhunt to ruin a day...

You look around nervously, steadying yourself on your hooves, flexing them with greater and greater familiarity, finding yourself more comfortable with this new form than you'd have guessed... Sleek, sharp, and your build, well, let's say you'd have given a pretty penny to have. Still probably would now if it didn't come with such a price as you're paying now.

You see the local temple in the distance, but such a public place will probably have you discovered in no time. Further into the markets, you think you can make out water. A port? At least maybe there, amongst cargo and vast yards, you could find a place to hide. Maybe even find others the world who've come into the same fate as you.

For now, you wait until no prying eyes are upon your alley to grab a tunic and toga from a trader's display. If the hooves and fur aren't enough, being without a thread on your back is awkwards...

You get caught star star star emptystar emptystar

You feel a hand on your shoulder.
"What are you doing?"

"Um." you turn too see a large pegasus. "I was a human and then I changed into this and have no idea what to do now."

"Ah. Your a newcomer. Follow me and we will get you orientated. Just don't try stealing anything again. Put it back by the way "

You put the clothes back and he starts walking.

"We will get you a job and a home. By the way were you male or female to start off with?"

The welcome speech star star star emptystar emptystar

"Male" you answer sharply. "Not that it matters anymore at this point. You?"

"You'll get your answers soon enough. Just know that there's a way to follow around here if you don't want to end up in trouble. That little theft? Your head. Get mouthy with the wrong person? Dungeons. Keep you head down and stay with us, and you might just make it for the long run."

"That's all well and good, but why can't you just tell me..."

"Remember what I said about getting mouthy?"

You give a huff of breath through your large nostrils and narrow your eyes at your 'guide'. Hopefully his intentions were really in your interests.

You arrive star star star emptystar emptystar

You follow him into a building. You notice a saying Police. He goes up to the desk and tells you to wait on the bench.

He goes into a room and after a while a female comes out and leads you into another room.

"Don't mind him, he is a little grumpy. He is a costume person like you. He has been in this world about 2 years now. He can't find another costume too go on to the next world. Myself I am a native. Anyway I hear you were male before coming into the verse. Welcome to our little corner" she says holding out a hand.

Hellooooo officer... star star star halfstar emptystar

"Charmed" You reply as you take the female's hand and try to give it a peck, though from her expression you wonder if she understand the gesture. "So... is this the part where you tell me I have the right to remain silent or face your wrathful doom and gloom?"

"Not at all! Actually, I'm here to make sure you know where you are and what to really expect, not the horror story that you heard. We're not out to get you."

You sit on and listen, your eyes inadvertantly wandering on the officer as she talks until a curt comment about how what you're thinking is only rumored to happen at the Vespal temple.

"Sorry, I'm still... adjusting. So, where to?"

"Your new quarters. Pardon the quality of the accomodations, but we didn't know another one of you was coming"

"Another one?" you ask.

"Yeah a female got a male costume" she replies "I'll introduce you if you like when your settled in."

She then steps up "follow me".

Soon you arrive at what looks like a barn. "yeah it looks bad but like I said we do not have a building ready for you. I am sure the construction team would find a job for you if you want to help them build your house "

Not just a roll in the hay star star star halfstar emptystar

"Classy" You mutter as you look around. "Give me a bearded man for a husband and a kid, a few more centuries, and I'm all set. So am I sharing this luxurious hotel with anyone, or am I twenty bales of hay richer than I was when i got here?"

"If you want to get anywhere here, you'd better put that attitude to better use. There's a chisel and a hammer there. If you want better than here, learn to use them. I don't know what you were before you put on that suit, but whether you were a prince or a pauper, we've got you an apprenticeship as a stonecutter."

"I always wanted to be a rock star..."

"What?"

"Never mind"

You nod "So who am I going to learn from?".

A wind blows through and ruffles your feathers "Oh and can I get some flying lessons at some stage?"

She looks at you and laughs "Oh I forgot that part. It has been a while since I have had to guide a newcomer. Before you ask the other one has his own guide. What's your name by the way?"

Mother of God... star star star star emptystar

You look around for a moment, then reply with a smirk "Theotokos will do. Now, if you'll give me a moment, me and the hammer have to get introduced."

Picking up the chisel and round hammer, you tinker with a block of shale while your guide looks on, giving an occasional well-meaning if not blatantly obvious hint as to the technique to be using. After a few minutes, you can feel your muscles tightening up, not quite used to the repetitive, harsh impact of menial labor. At least you'll keep your figure, you think to yourself until the silence is broken by a liquid voice, masculine in its undertones.

"You must be the other suit who arrived this day!"

"And there's someone in the suit too, his... her name's..."

You pause as you look at the new arrival, a tall, handsome black male, built like a god and as sharp-featured as a work of art.

"...something. Is there anybody under that six-pack?"

Ask a stupid question... star star star emptystar emptystar

"But... what do we win? Do you know?" Katie asks, the male's eyes suddenly changing from bold strength to a softer gaze. "You're the only other recent suit I've seen in a while, the others... I don't think they remember."

"Win? We only get back what these suits took from us. Our lives. You did the same thing I did, you got too close to one. It made you put it on, and now here you are, just like me. Now, I don't know about you, but the faster we get to the next suit and keep playing towards where ever this is going, the happier I'll be. I'm supposed to be a stonecutter. You?"

"A tailor. I've never sewn before. Hey..."

"Yes?"

"Do you think we could stick together for a while? I don't know what they have planned for us beyond work and a new life... it's good to have someone else who can understand."

You smile at the corner of your muzzle. "Welcome to the club, you're already wearing the uniform."

"I suppose so" you begin "But I don't know what this body needs. I could come up with something that wouldn't work"

He smiles "You could always come to my place for dinner and a look at what my house is like"

You look at him "Like a date?"

He grins "If you like."

"Socializing already, Theotokos? Hello Katie. I think your mentor was looking for you and those tunics she asked."

You turn and look at your first acquiantance when you arrived, the dominant male who'd stopped your theft. Katie turns and nods to you with a gesture indicating that he'll come find you afterwards. You nod and turn to your old... friend... and cock your head in question.

"Checking up on me?"

"You've been... difficult to welcome here. Usually more people come here rather open to help and don't mind fitting into the new life they find. You don't seem to understand what's happening to you."

"Oh, but I do, I do." you reply as you sit down on rough stool. "This is another prison cell I've been transferred to until I can leave this cycle. Well, I think I can leave it anyways. You're my warden, making sure that I behave."

"That's... putting it dryly."

"Like you said, I'm difficult."

"You are, yes you are. I'll make you a deal. You try to relax a bit and maybe your next suit'll come sooner than usual. Deal?"

"So I get parole for good behavior." You grin grimly. "All right, you've got yourself a deal."

"Excellent. If you're going to spend more time with Katie, it might be good for both of you. Couples tend to encourage each other if all goes well. But on the other hand, don't bring her down, eh? She's been a good sport up to now. It would be a shame for your frustration to rub off on her. Now, guess what? I'll personally be showing you how to put that chisel to worthy employ."

Learning star star halfstar emptystar emptystar

You try you best to carve the stone but your not used to your body.

Soon you have a pile of stone that are not square and finally the male gives up for the day and tells you to try again later.

He leaves shaking his head.

You rub your aching upper arms. So do you stay or go look for Katie?

Collusion star star star star emptystar

You look at the last block you make, then as soon as the male is out of earshot, whinney and toss it across the barn, kicking up dust as it tumbles on the ground. Damn this. Damn this illusion. You'll have to find something else, or maybe it was the constant comments and interventions that annoyed you.

You need to change you mind, you think to yourself as you pass a hand up your mane and over your muzzle, grunting as you feel the form of the latter. Darkness has fallen as you sit despondantly on the pile of broken stone, the pale light of the moon just illuminating a familiar form you can't help but smile at the sight of.

"Theotokos?"

"I'm right here. Look at all my nice work! I swear this is like breaking rocks in a gulag, I'll never get it."

"Ask me how many times I pricked my fingers today" Replies Katie as he rubs his hands together, then holds one out for you to take. "Care to get out of here?"

"Let's do like a rock and blow this joint. You live far away?"

"Just a few blocks" He replies as your fingers lace.

"And Katie?"

"You're a male. Stop swaying your hips when you walk." You say as both of you break into a laugh, the first honest one you've had in a while.

Flying? star star star emptystar emptystar

You start heading of and he looks at you and your wings.

"Do you want to try flying?" he asks you "could be the only good thing about this whole thing. flying above the city under our own power."

You look at him before he continues "Of cause that is a while away. To start off with just a few feet off the ground."

He lets go of you and starts flapping his wings to try and get off the ground.

Of cause as soon as he does a bit of dust starts being blown up.

Pinch me, I think I'm dreaming... star star star halfstar emptystar

You watch carefully and try to copy Katie's motions, finding the movement forced, and forceful. With a few muffled huffs of frustration, you keep batting your wings awkwardsly, finally managing to get into a hover. You can't help but laugh again as you climb with possibly your only real friend in this odd world, and close your eyes as you keep flapping, feeling less and less wind as you go up. The silence is amazing. Only you, and the batting of your wings. Odd, to fly...

Suddenly, a question comes through your mind. If this is a dream, just a nightmare... maybe you can end it. Nothing like falling to come around. As if reacting to the thought, you stop beating your wings and start letting yourself go. The air rushes by faster as you feel gravity call to you, your body losing mass... maybe you found the way out. Still that beautiful silence.

Your eyes shoot open as you hear a panicked voice calling to you, finding your hand held by Katie as she cries to you to beat your wings again. Realizing that the ground is within the reach of your moral peril, you start crying out in panic too and beat as hard you can, eventually steading out while your hearts race.

"Hey Icarus, what were you doing? What was that?"

"Nothing, it was nothing, I just... never mind. Sorry for the scare, I just needed to know something."

"Yes you're still alive. Yes this is real. My place is over there... let's see if you can manage a softer landing than what you were going for back there, eh?"

You both land clumsily but with no injuries except for your pride.

He opens the door "after you ma'am" and grins "I always wanted to do that, but the males would open the door for me and I never got the chance"

You grin at him and step inside.

Inside is a hammock, a small stove and a couch.

"Welcome to my home, it's not much. And if you make youself at home I will cook"

"So, I suppose they gave this to you too when you got here?"

"They gave me the house, but I made the hammock myself. I found the sofa when I was coming back the other day, bought it with my first few coins. I have what... six, seven, eight silver coins."

"Sounds like a rough start. Listen, that barn's not exactly something I call a home, maybe a workshop at best. As for building my own place, I don't see that happening for a long time seeing how brilliantly I did today..."

"Theotokos, are you asking to move in?" Katie asked with a grin, giving a quick kick of her hoof.

"I'm saying that we're two of a kind right now, and that since we'll be counting our coins to make ends meet, we might as well pool what we can. Am I such bad company?"

"No, no you're not. All right, this'll be as much home to you as me. I don't know what our trainers will say, but for one, I couldn't feel happier right now."

"I could have toes and so could you." You reply with a smile. "We'll figure this mess out together. So, what's cooking?"

"I spent my lunch hour forging in the forest. I got a recipe book from a guy who was renovating. Scored his old stove and a pot as well." he answers.

"Lucky you" you smile.

"I do have to take him some of my cooking as payment. I think he likes a hot meal a lot. I could do quite a bit if I had some meat and these bodies ate meat"

He throws a bunch of the plants in the pot and cooks it on the stove. Your mouth waters as it cooks and he serves it up into a couple of bowls and he hands you one along with a spoon.

He waits until you finish "So did you like it?"

"Yeah it was good" you answer.

"So do you want the hammock or the couch?"

Settling in star star star emptystar emptystar

Katie smiled and shrugged as he took a mouthful of the vegetables and swallowed, then paused and giggled "Hey, I'm supposed to be the male here. I suppose what you'd expect to hear is 'same as me'?"

You smile and reply immediately "I hope their is enough female left in you to not try anything like that..."

Katie laughed hard and shook his head "And apparently too much male in you to accept it. Awkwards, isn't it? I've been sleeping on the couch personally, I think I need the extra foot or two to lie down on. You'll be right as rain in the hammock if you can manage with it. Otherwise, I could always just make a second one, it just takes a few hours to knot."

You smile awkwardly as you climb onto the hammock to try it out. "Yeah. I'll try the hammock then."

Giving a long yawn as he stretches out, Katie nods and sits on the couch. "I can't say I was exactly a dame anyways before this. Always was a bit of a tomboy, you know? This... is further than I'd have gone though. not too taunt, is it?"

"Mmmh" You mutter as you turn in the hammock to face your fellow wanderer, not quite able to force out another more intelligible answer.

"So, milady hooves, need your lowly manservant make you another resting place?"

"No I think this will work."

Katie wraps his hand behind his head and grins "Good. I was out of rope anyways. How's your back holding out with all that heavy lifting? You must have gotten some workout, girly!"

"There is a bit of a twinge on my back, I'll admit..."

Cracking his own shoulders a few times, Katie nodded as he got up, "Then it's your lucky day after all. I'll let you guess what my real job is as a human... want me to see to it?"

"Were you a masseuse? In any case, yes please."

You rub my back, I rub yours... star star star halfstar emptystar

The tall pseudoequine nods as he stands next to the hammock, letting his hands run up and down your back, trying to feel out what muscles he can while avoiding your wings "I worked at a hospital in rehabilitation, as an intern. Let's see... this seems to be about right... tell me if I'm going too hard, eh? I'm still getting used to having guns like these."

"Ok... oh, this feels like it is just about right. " You mutter, half liquid under his hands.

Katie smiles and keeps working on your back, then eventually fades out into just friction, stroking your back gently to keep it warm "There... usually at this point I tell people to put their gowns back on, but in your case I suppose that doesn't quite apply."

You smile as you concentrate on enjoying the warm, steady and firm touch "...don't have any money to buy clothes."

The male looks down at his roughly sewn pants, handmade from scraps his tutor gave him "Well... I'll make something for you for certain. You deserve your dignity at the very least. You... don't mind if I keep stroking you? It... kind of feels comforting. After all, in my case, I've been here a week without anything to hold but brocade, leather and thread."

"The stroking's a good feeling, stallion. And thanks for the offer of the clothes."

He nods and shyly looks at the floor a moment "Theo? Can I... can I have a hug? I know it might be an innappropriate request but... I could use one."

Pacing over, you hug him tight. "Thanks for taking care of me. It's nice having someone to watch your back."

Katie hugs you close, giving what seems like a long, drawn-out sigh of relief. "Thanks for keeping me sane. I was starting to slip to be honest, you caught me when I needed it." He paused, then hugged you again at a few different heights. "Right, I think I know what to make you. I hope you don' mind showing some belly!" he states, stroking your stomach a moment with a distinctly bubbly, high-pitched giggle.

With a light whine, you can feel yourself rolling your eyes...

You can only front for so long... star star star halfstar emptystar

Wasting no time, the stallion fetches some linen from behind the sofa along with a small leather pouch, readying a length of thread before starting to cut the fabric roughly. "So come on, you're not a mute! This'll take a while... tell me what's on your mind? What's it like walking ancient Greece without anything but some feathers on your back, eh?"

"It was interesting. i didn't get to see much however."

He nods, already done hand-sewing the outline of a short-cut halter top, styled a bit like the local garb "I think some nice embroided trim will do well... I was saving this for something, now I know what! But honestly... you're fixated on your next suit, aren't you? I see that focus in your eyes, like you're trying to see further than here..."

"Yeah. I kind of want out of this place. I don't really like this world."

Katie nods direly as he finishes attaching the trim, then paces over and helps it on you, covering your chest perfect with a modest clevage and loose shoulders. Taking a step back, he nods and gets to work on your skirt "Could I come with you?"

"To the next world? Sure. But what if there is only 1 suit?" You ask before fussing over the shirt. "Do you have a mirror?"

Soon, he helps you into the long skirt, falling all the way down to your heels, then shakes his head as he remembers your question. "Sorry... I'm not rolling in fame and fortune yet. Take it from me, you look astounding." He adds with a smirk. "With or without those rags. As for the next suit... we'll see. But honestly, you're good company, I'd hate to part ways so quickly."

"From what I see of them, they're amazing, but I suppose I better take them off when working."

"That's up to you. you don't feel uncomfortable going around without them? I know... well... I can seem a bit rude sometimes."

"More I don't want to dirty them, you understand. These are a bit refined for construction wear."

Katie raises a finger and stops you "I'll make you another pair. It's not that I want to pressure you, but men are men, and sometimes it's better to err on the side of caution. If my reaction right now is any indication, you're the belle of the ball in any party here."

"And more rugged for working in, I hope?"

He nods as he shows you a hard-woven, tarp-like fabric, cutting it in double with some of the softer one to face inwards "Believe me... I think I know what I'm doing. It's nice having a muse!" he comments, raising your chin with a finger. "Just watch, I'll get back to the human world and I'll be working in Milan or something... if I get back. Do you wonder sometimes?"

"I suppose everyone will think I am dead... I'll need to start again, from scratch."

Your friend sighs deep as he cuts the fabric, then halfway through sewing, pauses and holds his face in his hands. You don't see anything at first, but you start hearing light, steady sobbing and a few light sniffs of the male's powerful nostrils.

..or not. star star star emptystar emptystar

Coming over to the sofa and tilting your head, you place a hand on Katie's back. "Is everything all right?"

He shakes his head and starts crying openly, putting aside his work as he buries his head in his arms, then yells through tears. "No, no it's not fine!" Laboriously, he stands up, still in tears, waving to himself. "Look at this! I'm a... a... winged freak! Some stupid joke! This is the sixth time I do this! This time... this time..." he pauses, taking off his pants and showing himself. "Look! What is this? I'm a girl! I'm twenty three, I'm a nice, polite, caring girl. I went into medicine to help people, and this..? Is this what I get?"

Gasping for breath as he, sobs hard and buckles to his knees, he states his peace coldly. "No, everything is NOT all right!"

"I know... hopefully next time I'll be the male and you'll be the female"

Katie looks at you and shakes his head, his eyes irritated with tears. "No. No. There's no next time. Not if you're not there. This time, I thought it would be over. but you know what? It never is. I swear to god this is just a joke to them, giving us hope that we'll get out of it. It'll just be suit after suit after suit until we either give up or die. And you know what? I choose the second. If I'm going to be stuck alone in another stupid damn suit again, I'm ending it."

"Hopefully we'll find something that will allow us to stay together, but..."

The tall male nods and hugs you tight "I'm sick of being a toy to these people. I'm sick of being someone's plaything that they can toss from one fairy tale rag into another. I just want to be me, Katie Stephenson." He looked at himself, somewhat rude as he'd thought, and reached for his pants. "I'm... I'm sorry... maybe I've already lost my mind to this..."

Sitting on the ground aside him, you wrap your thinner arms around his chest, leaning your head against his shoulder "Hopefully together we will keep our minds. I know I"m still fighting, and I'm pretty sure you are too, eh?"
