In a room
The sign reads
"Welcome all new travellers.
To continue you must go through a series of doors.
After going through you will pick a costume. You will then become a half- human and half that creature.
After a week(100 mins a hour,20 hrs a day,10 days a week) has passed you may morph and get another costume. To start of with you will only be able to become 40% human to 60% human.
If you put on a costume you will then become that creature, be teleported to it's home town and have to wait a week before being able to morph.
After 50 costumes you may change into one of your other costumes and become 30% to 70% human. When changing costumes you must wait at least an hour before you can change costumes again.
100 different species/gender costumes allows you to gender-morph and become 20% to 80% human
200 different species costumes allows you to combine costumes and become 10% to 90% human
400 different species costumes allows you to return to your world with no more morphing
And 800 different species costumes makes a polymorph and allows you to morph outside of this world.
Also if you have a costume like a centaur then the human part will always be human and is counted towards the human percentage.
Any gender/species transformation magic of yours can only change your gender(if you have at least 100 costumes) and the animal part to a different animal.
When you change into a different costume (that you already have) you may teleport to that species home town but you will have the week penalty where you have no costume changes.
If you die while wearing a costume you will be reborn at the local inn (or appropriate location ). If you have more then 100 costumes you will lose the costume you had when you died and go to an appropriate place for your next costume.
If you fail to make it out in 100 years(100 weeks in a year) one of your possible forms will be chosen and you will be permanently stuck in that form(apart from magic) until you die. Also there will be no possibility of going back to your world.
Also, one final note: should you take a female form and become pregnant, you won't be able to change your gender until the child is born, though the other aspects of your form may change (the child will change to match.) That is all, and good luck!
You realise that you have to do what the sign said to do and go through the doors and grab a costume.
Alternatively you could use the key system to determine the room

Centaur
You walk over to fairly large mount of chestnut cloth. You decide to wear the costume.
You first slip your feet into the costume's legs. Next, you pull the rest of the costume up to your waist. Fasten the belt buckle to hold it in place. All signs of the fasteners dissolve back into the furry fabric in a flash green light.
You feel your legs and feet change shape as your feet remold themselves into hooves. The rear portion of the costume expands in volume, taking on a barrel shape. You feel hind legs grow and extend behind you. A pushing sensation at the base of your now very lengthy spine is felt, as a silky black tail forms.
Your new centaur body feels both strong and somewhat awkward. You take a few wobbly steps forward, it is difficult to manage four legs instead of two. But you soon get used to moving in this way.
The boundary of the room dissolves away. A spectacular view of a grassy meadow and a dark forest beyond greets you.

The forest
You blink, trying to make your eyes adjust to the darkness. You hear a whispering around you, but can't seem to place it. It's almost as if the whole forest is whispering.
There's a rustling in the bushes, and a centaur steps in front of you.
It's a male centaur. He has a chestnut coat, long, brown hair, and a bare chest. He steps forward slowly, and holds out his hand. "Welcome to the forest," he says.
You take his hand.
"You seem nervous," the centaur says.
"Is this your first transformation?" You nod. The centaur laughs good-naturedly. "I've been all over the map. I was a male dolphin, a female hawk, a female dragon...I could go on and on...Would you like me to show you around.?" AND your response is...

Ryan
The male centaur, whose name you learn is Ryan, takes you around the forest. He shows you the various trees and plants, the best shrubs and berries for eating, cool clearings, the best spots to sleep...time flies, and you realize that you've been with Ryan for seven days. Time is kind of funny in this world.
Ryan takes you to a small clearing in the center of the forest. Flowering trees overhead give the clearing an intoxicating aroma, and in the center, the blossoms fall into a stone basin filled with shimmering water. Ryan turns to face you.
"There's something I need to tell you," he says, "I love you. I love you, and I want us to be together, here in this forest, as centaurs, forever. If we drink this water, we can be. There are three places in this world that will make a transformation permanent. This is one of them."
Your mind is racing. You remember that, in three days, you can find another costume, and morph again. Or, apparently, you can drink the water, and spend the rest of your life as a centaur with Ryan.

Moving On
"I'm sorry," you say, "but I don't want to be a centaur forever. I want to go back to my world someday."
"I see," Ryan answers gravely. "I'm going to find another costume. I've been a centaur for longer than a week." As he says this, Ryan turns, and vanishes into the brush.

Horsing around
Ryan is gone.
You sit pondering by the basin for a while before it really sinks in. Even though you didn't want to be with him forever as a centaur, you were quite taken with the guy and wouldn't mind meeting him again some time. Maybe in some other form you wouldn't mind sharing forever...
Whoa girl! This isn't about eternal commitment, it's about playing a game, getting prizes and hopefully going home one day.
Home... you try to think of your old home, your family and friends, but it's all a blur. Of course that could just be because you were distracted by thinking about Ryan...
Come to think of it, you haven't seen any other centaurs around. Were you and Ryan the only ones in this forest? Then you are the only one now - does that mean you win the round or something? You wish you had read the rules better, but at the time you were too impatient to do more than skim them. And there is no one around to ask...
Then it really sinks in. You Are Alone. Without a guide. Ryan told you lots of small things to make life easier, but the only really important thing he told you (well, apart from his declaration of love) was about this water.
And that there were two other places like this.
He never told you what these places were, or how they worked. Sure, they could be other places with magic water, but then again they could be something entirely different. Fruit to eat. Grass to roll in. Flowers to smell. The way Ryan phrased it, anything you haven't done before could cause you to trap yourself by accident.
You gaze thoughtfully at the water. It looks innocent enough, and you wonder idly how much a centaur of your size would have to drink for it to work. You notice a couple of metal cups standing to the side. One cup? Two?
You feel thirsty.
You wonder what the water tastes like.
Overcome by curiosity, you carefully dip a fingertip in the water and let a drop fall on your tongue.
It tastes like water.
Apart from making you slightly less thirsty, the water does not seem to have any other effect in such small quantities.
But then...

Game Over
You realize too late that how much of the enchanted water you drink is entirely irrelevant. A strange feeling washes over you as the water takes effect, and you find yourself slipping away. The centaur you have become is still very much alive and well, but whatever vestiges of true humanity you had are dead. You are still you, to be sure, but you no longer have any control over the centaur. It's as if you're watching a movie of yourself. Or rather, a cut-scene in a video game. And then you remember, this entire experience has been very much like a game, except that you were living it.
There was never a set goal for the game, but now you understand it: survive. Not simply survive bodily, because the game would resurrect you if your "character" died. But the goal was to keep your self alive. That is, your soul, if such a thing can even exist. The game was putting you through a barrage of transformations to see if you would give in and surrender your humanity to them. And you did. The Game was testing you, and you failed. Why were you being tested? What bizarre purpose was there in bringing people to a maze full of magical costumes. Well, now you'll never know, because you've lost The Game.
You notice, disinterestedly, that the centaur formerly known as you is gathering berries. The juices are staining her shirt, which used to be yours, back when you existed. You rather liked that shirt, you recall, and would never do anything so stupid as gather berries in it. This only serves as yet another jarring reminder that you no longer have any control over your actions, and you step back horrified.
Wait a minute...you just stepped back. You DO exist. You realize that you've been standing in a darkened room, watching the actions of your former self on a large flat-screen TV. Talk about immersive technology. In you hand is a black video game controller, from no system you've ever played. The cord connects to nothing--it looks burnt at the end. You then turn your attentions on yourself. You half expect to be a centaur, but you find yourself to be human again. Your clothes are gone, replaced by a thin black robe.
"Hello again," says a frighteningly familiar voice. You spin around to see a frighteningly familiar centaur standing behind you.
"RYAN!" you nearly shriek. Love him or hate him, it's quite nice to see a familiar face in this thoroughly confusing environment. "Where am I?" you ask. "And this controller--was I really in a game all along?"
"No, no, no," Ryan replies condescendingly. "It's a visual metaphor--because you had lost control of yourself, you were essentially playing a video game without a controller. I used it to rescue you. Technically, you're still in The Game, this is just sort of a...menu, if you will. Because now you have a choice." At this, Ryan shape shifts effortlessly into an impossibly beautiful woman, wearing a black robe rather like yours. "I am, in fact, a Polymorph, and not only that, I have some degree of control over the game. How I came to have this privilege is irrelevant for the time being. The point is, I took you out of that prison of a centaur mind, because you fascinate me. To begin with, you decided to play The Game--"
"Wait, wait, wait...I never decided to do this. I was just--"
"Everyone decides, to some extent, to play. You were no exception. You also did not succumb to my temptation, yet were still curious enough to try the water, while cautious enough only to drink a single drop...although that caution got you nowhere, it was a noble idea nevertheless. While you may not be the best player I've ever met, you're one of the most interesting. So now, because I'm so nice, I'm giving you a choice. I need an assistant, to help me with the management of the costume maze and all the associated universes. It's a big job, as you can imagine. I'm asking you to fulfill the role. You will be granted eternal youth, and a small share in the powers I possess. In exchange, I ask an eternity of service. I think you'll enjoy the job quite a lot, though. That's why I picked you. Your alternative is to turn around, and watch your centaur self, and spend the rest of eternity playing a video game with a broken controller. It won't be entirely boring, I should add. She's become an NPC, programmed to lure more hapless players like yourself to the basin. Still, if I were you I'd take the servitude. You'll like it. Trust me."
Ryan, whoever he/she is, has given you an interesting choice. Certainly, you'd want to escape watching your centaur self wander around without your control, but is the cost really worth it? What's your answer?

The end (for now)
