In a room
The sign reads
"Welcome all new travellers.
To continue you must go through a series of doors.
After going through you will pick a costume. You will then become a half- human and half that creature.
After a week(100 mins a hour,20 hrs a day,10 days a week) has passed you may morph and get another costume. To start of with you will only be able to become 40% human to 60% human.
If you put on a costume you will then become that creature, be teleported to it's home town and have to wait a week before being able to morph.
After 50 costumes you may change into one of your other costumes and become 30% to 70% human. When changing costumes you must wait at least an hour before you can change costumes again.
100 different species/gender costumes allows you to gender-morph and become 20% to 80% human
200 different species costumes allows you to combine costumes and become 10% to 90% human
400 different species costumes allows you to return to your world with no more morphing
And 800 different species costumes makes a polymorph and allows you to morph outside of this world.
Also if you have a costume like a centaur then the human part will always be human and is counted towards the human percentage.
Any gender/species transformation magic of yours can only change your gender(if you have at least 100 costumes) and the animal part to a different animal.
When you change into a different costume (that you already have) you may teleport to that species home town but you will have the week penalty where you have no costume changes.
If you die while wearing a costume you will be reborn at the local inn (or appropriate location ). If you have more then 100 costumes you will lose the costume you had when you died and go to an appropriate place for your next costume.
If you fail to make it out in 100 years(100 weeks in a year) one of your possible forms will be chosen and you will be permanently stuck in that form(apart from magic) until you die. Also there will be no possibility of going back to your world.
Also, one final note: should you take a female form and become pregnant, you won't be able to change your gender until the child is born, though the other aspects of your form may change (the child will change to match.) That is all, and good luck!
You realise that you have to do what the sign said to do and go through the doors and grab a costume.
Alternatively you could use the key system to determine the room

Otter
With little other choice, you opt for a brown, furry costume - it could be an otter, you think, as you slip into it. It’s warm, but not sweltering - and both the inside and the fur on the outside is very soft to the touch.
The second you finish slipping it on, however, is when the transformation begins.
At once, the suit seems to constrict around your body, yet not in a way that’s painful; instead, it’s like it’s fusing with your very skin. And as this is happening, you feel yourself briskly shrinking in size.
You try to grab hold of the strange suit to take it off, but your fingers are weaker, smaller. You see fur growing growing from the backs of your hands, the fur on the rest of the suit now feels like it’s YOURS. You also feel a number of other shifts occuring, all of them simultaneous.
You shrink down a few feet until you are about three feet tall, maybe a smidge taller. You’re now covered in fur completely, though the fur is lesser on some parts of your body, like your belly, your neck, your thighs.
The process wasn’t painful. Strange, yes, but there was no pain, for what that was worth. You are astonished, and rightfully so, by this event.
You stare at your smaller, chubby black fingers, flexing them to make sure they still work correctly. They do, but they are much smaller, just like you. You check your feet and see they are tiny and clawlike, and that you’ve also gained a tail that swishes around behind you.
You bring them to your face and feel the smooth fur there - your features have grown rounder, your ears are smaller and higher up on your head. You also have small whiskers poking out from your cheeks! They are very sensitive to the touch, and you recoil when you mess with them too much.
You start to move. You find walking on two legs is possible still, but it feels strange. You feel a compulsion to lean down and move on all fours like an actual otter and, after a few seconds of pondering whether you should or not - it sounds crazy how you want to do it - you lean down and find that, shockingly, you can move much easier on all fours.
Your body reacts smoothly to the change in posture. You scurry around the room for a bit, mostly getting used to this new way of moving. You stop after about a minute, maybe two, and look around, only to see there is now a door where you don’t recall a door being on the wall across from you.
It’s a small door, brown in color, big enough for someone of your new size to walk through.
You frown. Your lips twitch, and you walk over to it slowly, unsure if this is a good idea or a trap. None of this makes sense, and you know it, too.

Through the Door
You tentatively reach out to touch the door handle. Your paw-like hand can grab it well enough, and you pull it open. On the other side of the door is a massive forested area, including a large lake a few feet away from you - one that appears to branch out into a river stretching endlessly onward.
You walk through the door, hearing it shut behind you. You turn and test the door handle, but find it won’t open anymore. You sigh to yourself and turn back around, then venture onward. You test the lake water with one toe - the water is cool, yet in a pleasant way. You know otters like water, and, without much hesitation, you walk in.
The water is very nice on your fur-covered body. It’s soothing to be in, and you swim around at a rapid pace. Your new body adjusts to this rather abruptly - it surprises you how fun and freeing it is to practically soar through the lake without any sort of fear. It’s fun, and diving down is just as pleasant - you feel almost at home submerged here, as if it was waiting for you.
You pop out after a moment to catch your breath.
You look toward the direction of the river leading away from the lake. You don’t know how long it is, but it appears to go left at some point, almost like it’s curving around the foresty bank. You feel it might lead somewhere helpful, but, you aren’t entirely sure.
When you look around, studying all the trees of this weird forest area, you notice for the first time that there is also a path on land - to your right, there is a break among the trees, and you can see… something in the distance, like a cave of some kind. You see you have another potential place to go.
But then, your eyes catch something below you: there’s an underwater cavern under the lake! You see that you can fit into it with ease, and it seems to lead somewhere as well.
You calmly float there in the lake, your mind now ablaze.
Three opportunities sit before you: you can follow the river and see where it leads, go on land and follow the forest path toward the cave in the distance, or, you can dive underwater and swim through the big hole within the lake.
You look from one to the other, thinking. Choices, choices, choices.

River Path
After spending some time deliberating, you decide to follow the river to see where it might lead. If anything, you hope it might take you away from this strange place, but, you aren’t going to assume that’s the case.
Using your new otter body, you start to swim toward the river. There is a little gap between the lake and the river - it’s easy enough to get over, since it isn’t a very large gap, sort of a series of stones sticking up - but they’re smooth, and you slide over them without much trouble.
The river is moving relatively calmly, enough so that you can hop over the rocks that separate the lake from the river without much trouble. Once you’re in the river, you feel first that the water is a bit cooler than the lake - it doesn’t bother you, but it’s weirdly noticeable.
You shrug this off and start to follow it, swimming at a casual pace using your limbs to propel yourself forward. Even with a smaller body and smaller limbs, you swim briskly without trouble - it’s actually easier to swim now than ever before, you notice, as if your new body is meant to be in the water.
As you swim on, you take notice of something under the water further off - you stop and float there, glancing down: there, shining in the light and plainly visible, is some sort of glistening stone. You initially think it’s a pearl and dive down to grab it, but when you retrieve it and hold it in your hands, you see that, no, it’s colored an almost crystalline blue color.
You run your fingers across it - it is smooth, yet cool to the touch, cooler than you would normally think even though you found it underwater.
It’s weird, that much is certain. It looks sort of like it could be a gemstone of some kind, but it’s super smooth and fits relatively snugly in the palm of your smaller otter hand. You feel you could break into it somehow, but what is inside, you haven’t a faint clue. It doesn’t seem like an egg, but then, what the heck is it?
You wish you could figure it out, but, that doesn’t feel likely right now.
You consider dropping it and going on, but, you decide that - somehow - you can feel inside that this will be helpful to you. The problem, you note, is that you have nowhere you can carry it, as you no longer have clothing. But then you recall a fact about otters you heard or read somewhere before: you check your chest area and feel that there is enough loose skin on both sides for you to form a pouch of sorts in your fur.
This gives you an idea, and you stuff the strange little blue sphere into this makeshift pouch. There is enough skin there to fold around it that when you flip over to start swimming again - you take it slow to be sure - the stone doesn’t fall out into the water.
With this in mind, you start to swim in the river once more, following it.
Like you thought from when you were in the lake, the river goes on for a bit before curving to the left. You find that when you reach this point, that things appear to change ever so slightly around you: the trees are opening up more, and the river picks up in speed. The shift in speed is almost instantaneous - you notice it when you move up a little, but again, it isn’t too fast that you can’t keep a steady pace.

Swim Forward
You keep this in mind and swim forward for about a minute.
It’s only around a minute because you catch sight of something in the corner of your eye and stop once more, grabbing onto some stones jutting out of the river side to keep yourself in place. There, lodged in one of the tree trunks, is another small pearl-like sphere. It shines in the light, so much so that you find yourself unable to look away from it.
Curiosity gets the best of you, and you crawl out of the river and move toward it. You stop at the base of the trunk and see that it isn’t too high - if you were still as tall as you used to be, you could stand on the tips of your toes to grab it. Now, though, you have to shimmy up the trunk using your little paws, hoisting yourself up so you can grab it.
Your first attempt doesn’t get you anywhere. Your limbs are smaller, and you’re not as strong as you used to be.
But you are determined and you try a second time, using all the strength you can muster. You manage to pull yourself up enough to grab onto the weird stone - it pops out of the trunk rather smoothly, to your relief, and you slide back down with it in hand. This one is a light orange color, unlike the first, but it too is cooler to the touch, despite this one not being underwater.
You put this one in the same pouch, next to the other. You feel as though there’s enough room for one more of these, if you stumble across one.
You turn back and return to the river, slipping into the water without issue - you pause once you’re back as you start to float forward, just to make sure the two stones are secured in your pouch. They are, thankfully. You then push on, swimming further, following where the river water leads you again.
A few minutes pass as you swim onward.
You keep your eyes peeled for any sign of these weird shimmering stones, but see none. Of course, you know you may be missing them entirely, but you do the best you can - even if you have no clue what they are or what purpose they serve. Eventually you come to the part where the river appears to move up and over a hill.
Here, the river seems to slow in speed, and you pause at the fit of the hill.
It looks weird how the river seems to just go over it naturally, but your attention drifts from this to something shimmering that grabs your eye. Another little stone, you see, just sitting in a small bush right next to you. You reach over and grab it, and see that this one is light purple in color - you add it into your chest pouch with the other two, and wonder what they are.
They don’t look like gemstones - they don’t even look natural, you think. You feel puzzled, but, something tells you that you don’t have all the answers quite yet. So, you’ll hold onto them in hopes you’ll understand what purpose they serve.

Swim Up
You focus back on the river going up the hill and start to swim up it. Because it goes up at an angle, you realize you’ll have to use more strength to push your way up it.
You start kicking your arms and legs, but you end up either overestimating how much force you need or underestimating yourself, because you shoot up and then over the hill with barely any effort. You move so fast, you almost fly over the hill, but you land in the river, spinning about for a tense moment instead.
Once you’ve stopped, you steady yourself.
Your heart is beating a little quickly from the suddenness of what just happened, but you are fine otherwise. You suppose this strange new body has more strength than the standard otter does, so, you note you’ll have to factor that in for the future for the time being.
It takes only a few seconds to re-orientate your vision and see that things have again changed, but in a much different way than before. The river keeps going for only a short while before it stops - it hits a massive dam that seems to come out of nowhere and stops, or perhaps it continues flowing underneath, but you can’t tell for certain.
Written by Hollowpages on 07 June 2019
Climb the Dam
More than this, however, you notice that there are now two more paths that appear before you - not quite a fork in the road sort, though, more of two very clear paths for you to pick. You swim up to the dam and climb on top of it to get a better lay of the land around you.
To your surprise, you see other living people! Or, animals? Animal people? You can’t tell, at least not at first, but it feels like it could be that way. Either way, they are on both sides and lower than you.
To your left, you see three beavers that are much more humanoid in shape - much like how you are now a humanoid otter, these three appear the same way. They are huddled together and appear to be talking amongst themselves, or communicating somehow. A few feet away from them, you see there’s a big opening in the ground - you think you can see a ladder of some kind leading into it, but where it goes, you can’t be sure.
For you to get to them, you have to go down a little path - the hill dips down to a muddy area where the beavers are huddled together.
To your right, you see a single otter person like you. They are currently chilling in a small pond in front of a big hut of some kind, and it looks like they have something in their paws - you squint and see it’s one of the little gemstones like the three you found, which means that they may know either what they are or what to do with them. You consider that there may be others, too, in the hut - it’s quite big, big enough to hold a number of otter people.
For you to get to them, you have to climb down a few weirdly shaped stone walls. They stick out in a row, as if someone put them up to block out falling stones, it appears. They don’t look too dangerous to climb down, though.
You stand there and ponder what you can do next.
You doubt that the beavers and the other otter will stay where they are forever, and knowing this, you understand you have to make a choice and make it very soon. You can either take a chance that these beaver people are friendly and could help you, or you do the same with the other otter person.
It’s possible they might all be friendly, or they might be hostile, or they might get scared and flee. You have no clue since none of this makes a lick of sense to you, but, you have to figure out what you want to do and do it fast.

The end (for now)
