You are standing by a tree star star star emptystar emptystar

There are 3 paths.

One appears to go to a jungle,
one appears to go to a cave,
one appears to go to a beach,
you could try and climb the tree,
there is a nearby shop you could go in,
or you could do something else.

So what's its going to be?

Kottur star star star emptystar emptystar
You look at the schedule and their is a tour of Kottur Hall coming up; it's one of a group of buildings where they hold classes for future veterinarians. You look at the photos of the people in the facility and grin when you see someone has Photoshopped the head of a cat onto one of the portraits. Pretty good job, too.

You find the start of the tour just before a small group of people leave. Yep it seems to be a normal set of classrooms. but there only showing the bottem level and you don't actually know what is studied here. They the tour goes to a room of plants that seem to be mostly catnip. So mostly gardening perhaps.

You reach up and scratch your ears. They seem slightly pointy but that is obviously not possibly so you ignore it.

Classes star star star emptystar emptystar
They then go onto a series of classes about taking care of every aspect of cats. So this building seems to be focused on felines.

The tour then finishes and you get a brochure about the courses they offer. All their courses seem to have the same starting class. 101M or 101F .

The brochure says that tuition is $50,000 a year... but reading further, you discover that the University offers quite a large selection of financial assistance programs, not to mention there seems to be quite a few job openings in the area. In fact... if you're reading the brochure right, it looks like a smart student might actually be able to end up with more than 50 grand worth of financial assistance! That's a very persuasive argument for attending TFU.

You flick back and read up a bit on the difference between the 2 101 classes.It seems that M is for males and F is for females. However they do say it is all right for males is F and versa versa.

The person manning the booth then tells you their is only one spot left in the intake for the year and to sign up quickly if you want to do the course.

Sign up star star star emptystar emptystar
It sounds a little like a high-pressure sales technique... but apart from that, it seems like a decent enough school, and there are all those scholarships and so on... You sign up and are disappointed when you find the 101M class is already full but you get the last 101F spot instead. Hey maybe you will meet a cute girl there.

You fill out all the forms for the job applications and scholarships and are told you will know within the week . You also get a list of books you need for the unit.

Some of them are a little strange "My life as a cat"?. Could be anything though really.

To the dormitory star star halfstar emptystar emptystar
You follow the instructions to your dormitory. It's listed as a co-ed building, but there seem to be very few males in it for some reason.

You notice a few people wearing tails and you go and ask about it "e;Yeah.were 2nd year students. We have to wear these tails all year"e;

"Why? I mean, that's kind of... weird, isn't it?"

"I think they want us thinking like cats when we become vets"

Which would explain that odd MY LIFE AS A CAT book...

Ask about the lack of males star star halfstar emptystar emptystar
You ask about the lack of males. "e;Yeah they put all of us in the F class in this dorm and the Ms in another one "e;

"e;So did you choose F or was there no spots left in M?"e;

"e;There was only this spot avaliable"e;

"e;Well, I wouldn't worry about it -- males tend to get rescheduled to the M program within a couple of years."e;

To your room star star halfstar emptystar emptystar
You say goodbye and go up to your room. Yeah nothing interesting here and open your textbook.

You open the book and start reading. The author is quite skilled; his prose is so compelling that you almost feel like you are a cat.

Before you know it there is a knock on your door and you see a bunch of people. "e;Hi we're new too and wanted to introduce ourselves. You up for pizza?"e;

"e;Sure"e; you say.

To the cafeteria star star halfstar emptystar emptystar
You go to the cafeteria and find out that all the food is cat themed. "Well I guess they are really into the cat theme" one of the new girls says.

You find something that looks all right and as you eat you notice that the older students are eating the more cat-like food like sushi.

Despite the unusual foods, your meal is one of the best you have had.

The next week passes quickly and you get to know your fellow classmates. And your scholarship and job applications are accepted and yep it appears you'll have a bit of money to spend even after paying for your tuition.

You expected that living in the female dominated building might take some getting used to, but it doesn't. Perhaps the most obvious difference from other dorms is that there is not a lot of parties keeping you awake at night. Another difference: Rather than a small number of communal bathrooms, every room has its own attached toilet and shower stall. You do have to get in early to get hot water though.

Start the classes star star star emptystar emptystar
Before you know it the classes start. You can count the males on one hands. Well that is to be expected in the F stream.

Apart from that small detail it is your standard university.

Of course your first class is different: Feline Psychology 101.

2 hours later your 1st class is finished and you blink confused for a moment. You almost thought you were a cat for a moment in there and the lecturer almost looked feline too.

After a bit of talking you find that no-one else saw her as a feline and you dismiss the thought.

Next year star star star emptystar emptystar
The year passes quickly. There are other classes in which you see that odd 'cat illusion', but since nobody else seems to notice anything, you pay them no mind. By the next year, you get to choose you tail. They are lots of choices and you get a white tiger tail.

The workplaces are understanding and you notice a few other tail wearers from the M stream and they describe similar experiences (and some see the cat illusion too)

As the year passes you soon get used to the tail.

Middle of the year star star star emptystar emptystar

You are surprised when in the middle of the year you are transferred and you find yourself in a dormitory you did not know about. filled with cat people. You are doubly surprised when you find that your tail is now a proper tail.

You soon find out that the university is hiding a large rip in reality and magic is leaking into this universe. And the tail is the first sign of you being changed by it.

You are introduced to the heads of the facility who are are felines. While most are anthro there are a few other forms such as 2 varieties of taurs, a satyric form and even a few feral forms.

"Despite our studies we still don't know much about the magic. We do know it changes humans into other species -- and whatever the gender ratio started out as among those who change, it always seems to end up 50-50."

More details star star halfstar emptystar emptystar

"Is that why there is the F&M branches?"

They nod. "When the first gender-swaps occurred, it seems to have been random, and some of the changed people didn't deal with it very well; we had to try to stop it from happening, or at least make it happen less often. The two-track idea was the first thing we tried, and fortunately, it seems to have worked. "

"Much the same is true of the species changes. They were initially random, as far as we could tell, but now that we've got specific course-sequences which focus on various species, the species-changes are almost exclusively restricted to those sequences."

"But why didn't you tell me on the 1st day?" star star star emptystar emptystar

"But why didn't you tell me on the 1st day?"

"You wouldn't have believed it," they reply. Which is true enough... magic and species-changing and all that, not exactly a credible story."Hell, some of us don't believe it! Also, we'd much rather not let this become public knowledge just yet. I'm sure you can see why."

You nod "How long does the change take?"

"It varies, depending on how much time you spend close to the rift. The dorm you're now in is right on top of it, so your transformation should be complete in about a month. We don't know why it takes that long; the change shouldn't be possible at all, so why shouldn't it finish up in an instant?"

"Anyway this is where we study the magic to try and control it and see if these changes can be reversed."

Spells star star halfstar emptystar emptystar
"We have made some progress in understanding the magic.One of the 'spells' allows us to power small electrical devices."

"We haven't had much luck however with transformation spells, the best we have done is changed hydrogen gas into helium. Is good for providing funding."

"And we don't like to take chance with humans here, You need to wear your costume so the magic doesn't change midstream ,like what happened to a couple of the original changed"

"Of cause if you don't like your costume you can make modifications, some of them stick to the form, others do not."

Modifications star star halfstar emptystar emptystar
";We do have a few winged people as an example of one of the changes. It does seem that it has to exist in mythology or in real life. It seems fictional creatures get changed into the nearest match."

He points to the non anthro people "So far we have only managed to get the anthro form. Most of the others are from the original change. The others are the ones who left and came back when the changes continue. Most of them are the quadruped ones"e;

"One thing we have learnt is wearing only the bottom half equals the top changing to match"

He leads you to a white tigeress costume. "Here is your costume."
