The world building is good. By the time the story ends you are aware of the number of supernatural species that exist. You also get an idea of how the werecats and werewolves politics work. In addition you get to see how the human world sees the supernatural one.
Character wise you are able to tell the main characters apart. We have the werecat and the human child.
Transformation wise it pretty standard, animal has control just after the full moon change. The bigger changes are her reaction when the child comes under her protection.
I have read quite a few sequals and quite a few things that come up are as a result of this book.
Overall I can recommend this one
