At first I did not like this book. I could not work out where it fitted in the series. But like the previous book once the initial chapters were over I enjoyed it much more.
Story wise this gives one of the minor characters from the previous story much more backstory. And then the main characters come in the final act to help out.
Transformation wise, at first I thought was going to be disappointing, but then once the characters from the other book enter you see a lot more about the effects.
Overall, while I think the start could of been handled a lot better the final act is enough for me to give it a 4
