My biggest problem with the book as a whole is the number of characters referred to by name or have a speaking role. By the time you get to chapter 17, their are at least 50 characters. Most of these have very little character development or are only in their for a couple of chapters
As a result by the time the big twist arrives, their is no impact as the character in question has not had a lot of development time
It is the same with the antagonists plots. Off the top of my head I can count of 5 antagonists. Combine this with little plots and each of the plots only get a few chapters to themselves.
Most of the scenes themselves are quite well written as stand alone chapters along with hints of the mental effects of the change.
Overall I was hoping for much better then what I got though.
